The Recyclability Assessment Methodology (RAM) is now an obligatory tool for assessing packaging recyclability, but to truly meet the ambitions of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), it must evolve. In this session, Alex Hilton, pivotal in the creation of the RAM and now Director of Policy and Public Affairs at Beyondly, will explore the methodology’s current strengths and outline enhancements that could transform it into a driver of circularity.

Alex will share his insights on the forthcoming circular economy strategy, including if the UK government can and should align with EU PPWR, and other wider factors including lifecycle carbon assessment. Overall, this session will review how a future RAM could help businesses move from compliance-led recycling strategies toward systemic, future-focused, circular packaging solutions.
