Mura Technology have developed Hydro-PRT, a hydrothermal advanced recycling process, capable of recycling waste plastic back into the chemicals and oils from which they were made, producing recycled feedstock for the manufacture of virgin-grade plastic and reducing the need for fossil-resource derived plastics. Complementary to traditional mechanic recycling, target feedstock for Hydro-PRT includes multi-layered, post-use flexible and rigid plastic packaging that would otherwise go to incineration, landfill or escape into the environment. Mura’s first 20ktpa site, saving c40,000 tonnes CO2 eq. annually, will commence operations in 2024, with potential to expand the site to over three times this initial size.
