Standard Gas Technologies Ltd

Standard Gas Technologies (SGT) is unlocking one of the UK’s most scalable carbon removal and fossil fuel displacement solutions. Our proprietary SG100 Advanced Thermal Conversion (ATC) system transforms non-recyclable Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) into high-value, carbon-negative outputs: Waste-Derived Biochar (WDB), high-purity synthesis gas (syngas), and renewable heat and power.

Our flagship plant currently being commissioned in Norfolk, UK, is set to process 45,000 tonnes of RDF annually. Unlike traditional biochar, our WDB is cost-effective, consistent, and engineered for performance. When incorporated into concrete or asphalt, WDB permanently sequesters biogenic carbon while enhancing material strength and reducing cement demand. Just 1% WDB in global concrete mixes could sequester 0.5 gigatonnes of CO₂ annually addressing nearly 20% of the cement industry’s emissions.

Our syngas displaces natural gas in industrial processes, cutting emissions by up to 30% due to its renewable biogenic fraction. As landfill and incineration remain the only alternatives for RDF, our system turns waste into climate solutions offering a negative-cost feedstock, multiple revenue streams, and strong alignment with future emissions trading schemes.

SGT is also pioneering robust carbon removal methodologies, collaborating with the University of Edinburgh, the Ithaka Institute, and others to establish science-backed monitoring, reporting, and verification. This enables trusted Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) credits, valued at £100–£200 per tonne, to support widespread SG100 deployment.

Our mission is clear: to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors through permanent removals, clean energy, and profitable partnerships. Join us in building a resilient, net-zero future powered by waste, driven by science.
