Swancote provides the most comprehensive environmental solution for food waste management in the UK. First, we separate the food waste from its packaging, taking care to sort the packaging by material and to further sort plastic packaging by polymer type. The next step is to convert the food waste to energy using the anaerobic digestion process. The electricity generated is fed into the national grid and to local business. What’s left after the anaerobic digestion process is pasteurised and used as organic fertiliser. Meanwhile the cardboard, glass, metal and plastic packaging is recycled to be used again and again.
