OMMI SRL: Pioneering Circular Solutions in the Global Textile Industry

Long before textile circularity became a boardroom buzzword, a family-owned company in Prato, Italy — Europe’s largest textile district — was already working on the challenge of fibre reuse. Founded in 1963, OMMI SRL has been at the heart of the industry’s evolution, adapting post-war technologies for fibre opening, blending, and card feeding, and steadily expanding into new frontiers of textile innovation.

OMMI’s story reflects the resilience and ingenuity of the textile sector itself. From its origins in fancy yarns, wool and cotton, the company diversified into automation for dyeing and bleaching plants, and later pioneered new machinery for the fast-growing non-woven sector. But perhaps its most transformative contribution has been in tackling one of fashion and manufacturing’s most urgent problems: textile waste.

In 1990, OMMI co-founded Italiana Rigenerazione to develop advanced tearing and fibre re-opening processes. This laid the foundation for the patented Recoline® system, which today strengthens the global push for fibre regeneration. By producing longer, higher-quality regenerated fibres, Recoline® enables textile waste to be reintroduced into primary industrial processes — moving the sector closer to true circularity.

Now present in over 40 countries across five continents, OMMI combines heritage with cutting-edge technology to deliver solutions that not only serve manufacturers, but also help meet the world’s growing demand for sustainable textiles.

Meet OMMI SRL at The Recycling Expo & Sustainable Trade and Production Expo, 7–8 October 2025 at ExCeL London, and discover how their systems are driving textile regeneration worldwide.
